Tavern of Sins Developers Interview!

Tavern of Sins is a Crispy Tofu Games' title. Best described as a casual merge game, the player gets to run its own fantasy tavern, and make all the sweet cash that comes with.

The Nutaku team had a little sit down with the developers, and let them talk more about their game.

What's the studio's background information?

We are an independent studio located in Granada. We decided to explore mobile video games - taking some conventional games and developing alternative versions of them, modifying the art, the mechanics or the game itself to another level and creating new experiences.

We wanted to explore all aspects of game development and publishing. One of the ways to do that was to target a conventional game to the adult industry. This was our first adult product. We are very proud of it and really excited about publishing.

Any specific points about the development team?

We’re all from Granada. The core members are independent developers who love the industry and do not take the development process as a job. We truly believe that effort and consistency can lead to amazing results and that is the philosophy we bring to our day-to-day work.

Have you developed other adult or non-adult games?

We've worked on some games as an outsourcing studio, so there aren't many titles we can mention here. This is one of the first projects we developed ourselves.

What are the specificities about your current game?

When bringing a conventional game to the adult industry, we had to learn how to transform a casual game into a collectible game in which the player is in charge of unlocking new art and characters instead of focusing only on gameplay. We created attractive art and aesthetics for the game and designed a coherent meta-game so that everything is integrated seamlessly.

Any mainstream game equivalent?

We took as a reference lots of “merge games”, like “Merge planes” (which currently is not in the store) and “Merge robots”, but there are lots of games like those (Merge Dogs, Merge Car game, Merge Airplane: Cute Plane Merger”) that can serve as a merge game template.

Have you run into any challenges while creating your game?

We had two big challenges on the design of the game:

First, in the other merge games we mentioned previously, there are robots or cars or animals or anything just running around and earning money. We seriously believe that a video game needs consistency, that's why we came up with the idea of a tavern where customers tip the girls so they can justify making money on the game.

Secondly, these merge games are more oriented to advertising and less to IAP monetization.  Since we cannot include advertising in our game, we modified the whole economy system and created a game based on collectible art.

What type of value does a partnership with Nutaku bring to your studio?

If we think of the adult game industry, Nutaku is the name that comes to mind and the name we want our games to be published under. We hope that this first game will open the doors to future games and collaborations.

Where do you see the adult game industry going moving forward?

The adult industry has always been huge, not to mention the games industry... The combination of both has an incredible potential that we don't want to miss, and in these times when mobile games are growing every day, there will be an incredible opportunity for developers like us that will allow us to keep creating more and better content.
