Interview with the Kinkoid team

“If classics are classics, it’s because they work – that’s my sentence.”

This mentality is the rosetta stone to understanding Comix Harem, Nutaku’s upcoming satire of web-slingers, caped crusaders, and everything in between. The game’s lead content producer, FAB, is proud of the fact that the stars of Kinkoid’s latest instantly reminded us of classic comic superstars. Because, according to him, that’s kind of the whole point.

“It’s called Comix Harem, not Hentai Harem,” he chuckles. “[There’s not] a lot of that Japanese influence on the art. It’s comics, so it had to look like what people think when they picture comics in their mind.”

But that shouldn’t scare away Kinkoid’s dedicated fan base of hentai lovers. Despite the shift in focus, Comix Harem will offer players the same great art, quirky writing, and fun, fantastical sex that they’ve come to expect from the developer. And according to the team, the apple definitely doesn’t fall too far from the tree.

“It’s very, very, very close to Harem Heroes,” he says.

“The gameplay is almost the same, yeah,” agrees Magrat, the director of communications. “The way I’ve always seen it is like a collection game. You just want to go and try to collect all the girls, so you can build a harem of gorgeous ladies.”

Suffice it to say, Harem Heroes diehards will find a lot of the same things to love here. FAB describes the basic progression as a “kinetic novel,” with “a bit of RPG and a bit of PVP” worked in for good measure. Magrat adds that Comix Harem will feature a few different types of gacha pulls as well.

“People love the chance and the thrill,” she says, “and they don’t have to do a lot.”

But for players invested in the long haul, Comix Harem will offer an expansive story that’s both a cheeky homage to Western comics and a funny yarn all on its own. Along the way, you’ll encounter a whole bevvy of superheroes that will remind you of the super men and wonder women you grew with – just way kinkier!

“[The story takes place] on a planet where people can have powers,” says FAB, “and on that planet, people with powers can become superheroes. [The player] will be part of an organization, and become one of the protectors of the world. The main character has the power of having a magic dick – of course – and this magic dick is boosting the heroines’ powers. His power is to inspire superheroes’ superpowers in general.”

Magrat laughs. “It’s very ‘girl power.’ The player has to make them happy – he has to give them orgasms, satisfy them, and give them training.” When we joke that every superhero story needs a good training montage, she laughs and says, “yes, put on Eye of the Tiger!”

The Kinkoid team had to do a bit of training when making this game, too. According to FAB, he wasn’t overly familiar with Western superhero comics going into Comix Heroes. But with the help of his intrepid comic nerd co-developers, he worked to learn more about the world of spandex-clad beefcakes and the latex ladies that love them. Along the way, he even came away with a few faves of his own! But just in case any touchy comic companies and fanboys are in earshot, we’ll let you discover these cheeky send-ups on your own.

(Hint: they rhyme with “Spider-Ben,” “Nystique,” and “Rick Fury”!)

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Kinkoid game without a bunny girl, and Comix Heroes features the return of a familiar face – and a pair of fluffy, extra thicc ears!

“Bunny’s our signature character,” Magrat says.

FAB elaborates. “She’s just a classical hentai type of fantasy, you know? So we decided that she should be the little wink to the hentai community. In Harem Heroes, she was bringing the hero into our world – a reference to Lewis Carroll’s Alice In Wonderland, of course – and after that, she was quite popular with our players. She became our mascot naturally, so it’s just normal that she’s there when the hero starts their journey.”

Easing players into the world is a big deal for Kinkoid. According to Magrat, the studio was founded by three people who “wanted to make games for people like them,” and cares a lot about making its dedicated nerd fan base happy. Whether it’s riffing on comics, manga, or something else entirely, that ethos guides the team in everything they do.

“We are geeks – all of us,” Magrat says. “[The founders] wanted to make quality adult games that they weren’t seeing anywhere, so they just decided to create one. So when we make games, we’re also doing it for ourselves, in a way.”

So rest easy, super-fans – Comix Harem is going to be everything you’ve ever fantasized about comics and much, much more. The game will be coming out soon, so keep your eyes peeled on our social media for more info!

Until then – excelsior, true believers!
